            The 210 MM Magnetic Observation Group                               

The coordinated ground-based magnetic observations during the STEP (Solar-Terrestrial Energy Program) period (1990-1995) were carried out to study energy and plasma transfer processes and global auroral dynamics. Topical Group 2.2 (Project Leader: Prof. S. Kokubun, Japan) set up by Working Group No. 2 for the STEP, was concerned with Coordinated Ground-Based Magnetic Observations for Studies on Response of the Magnetosphere an Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling (COMOSM). Japanese ground-based observation teams participated the COMOSM programs. In order to organise the observations efficiently, working plans in Japan were grouped into four regional categories, i.e., the polar region, high-latitude conjugate region, middle and low lattitudes, and the equatorial zone.

During the STEP period (1990-1995), the STEL, Nagoya University (Y. Tanaka, K. Yumoto, K. Shiokawa) conducted multinationally coordinated magnetic observations along the 190, 210, and 250 (deg) magnetic meridians (MMs) in cooperation with and/or courtesy of the following institutes and organizations (co-investigator and cooperator names are in parentheses): University of Newcastle (B.J. * After the Principal Investigator, K. Yumoto, moved from the Solar-Terrestrial Environment Laboratory (STEL) to Kyushu University on February 1, 1996.
